Harbor Transit, in cooperation with the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety (GHDPS) provides an ideal designated handicap parking area for special needs guests on Saturday, August 7th; the day of the Grand Parade, Carnival, the Waterfront Show, and the ever popular Grand Finale Fireworks Extravaganza. The handicap parking area also provides handicap accessible busses located on Harbor Island just north of Coho Drive located a short distance southwest of the drawbridge. Each Harbor Transit bus is outfitted with a lift if required and is ADA compliant. The parking area is just a short distance to the Park & Ride Shuttle pickup and drop off location. The Shuttle will then take you from the Harbor Island to the intersection of Washington Avenue and Third Street. This location is only one block from the Arts & Craft Fair, across the street from the carnival, and only three blocks to the waterfront activities. Follow the parking directional signs and lighted message boards along US-31 to the site. You can also tune your AM radio to 1630 for further information. There is a small fee for the Park & Ride which is $2.00 per vehicle with an additional $1.00 if there are 1-2 riders and if there are 3 or more riders, it is an additional $3.00. No one vehicle will pay more than $5.00. It should be noted that 40% of this fee goes to a local charity in return for them serving at the Park & Ride site. Harbor Transit receives the rest of the fee to offset personnel and fuel expenses. The Park & Ride Shuttle runs from 9:00 AM until after the fireworks.
